Finish what you start!

Do you remember how I casually skipped over day 4 of my Philly looks??? Well, here's the scoop. While in Philadelphia, I was determined to make this super flowy asymmetrical Vogue (#1683) skirt. Once I arrived, I assessed the setup of my AirBnB and quickly realized that there was NO IRON! How was that even possible? What about my seams? Wrinkles? Before a tear could roll, I found a pretty handy steamer in a closet. I went to work........at the dining table.

For my skirt, I envisioned a perfect image of green gingham blowing in the wind. After all, it was the summertime! For the most part, everything was going as planned. I made a quick trip down to fabric row for some interfacing. I'm guessing the steamer and my Kindle Fire had some sort of convo while I was away, because I don't think I've ever had interfacing to fuse so well. Lol! I finished the skirt in a few hours and hit the streets for a good time! I had not one care in the world........

......except for the fact that I ABSOLUTELY HATED MY SKIRT! Here's why:

- the back of the draping would not stay closed

- the zipper was exposed and eventually separated from the skirt

- the actual skirt (view A) was graded the much bigger than necessary

There was no way that I would post real photos until I had fixed all of my "issues". Last week, I purchased more gingham and re-cut the side panels. This time, I added 4 inches to each side to account for my derriere :-). I serged all of the seams (a luxury that could not be afforded at my vacation dining table); it allowed to to properly re-insert the zipper. As I proceeded to have a final fitting, I noticed that there was still a slight gap between the back draping. At this point I knew exactly what to do. I took both of the previous side panels and attached them directly over the zipper. In order to get in and out of the skirt, I attached buttons to completely eliminate the possibility of a gap with the draping. Verdict: It worked!

Although the pattern suggests fabrics without stretch, I can't help but wonder how amazing this skirt would be with knit fabric and no zipper. That is my recommendation for this pattern; however, I'm certain that I will give that theory a test run pretty soon. It's an easy make, but definitely requires quite a few adjustments. Regardless, I always finish what I start. ~SSS
